EDITOR'S NOTE
The Five Ws and the one H
Anand Agashe, Director Editor of Sakaal Media Group answers six questions that are uppermost in everyone’s mind about the group's new national English daily newspaper - Sakaal Times. Here we go:
What is this ‘active knowledge’ that Sakaal Times seeks to share with its readers and other associates?
Why one more newspaper when there is already a clutter in Pune, Pimpri and Chinchwad?
Will Sakaal Times be an English clone of the daily Sakaal?
How is Sakaal Times going to be different from the others?
When will the difference manifest itself?
Where will it all happen?
There are thinkers and there are doers. The twain must always meet although they rarely do, elsewhere! Fortunately our city does not suffer from this dichotomy. As enshrined in the Pune University anthem (Dnyana bano karmasheel, karma dnyanavaan …), Sakaal Times’ columns shall strive to offer a regular feed for actionable thought to its esteemed readers who are endowed with global vision and aspirations. It will not be a one-way traffi c. You are more than welcome to join in this endeavor… news, features, and this extra feed!
Yes, there is a clutter of newspapers in Pune, Pimpri and Chinchwad. Yet we honestly believe there is room for a new, refreshing citizen like Sakaal Times, not just out there in the newspaper market but more so in your far-from-cluttered mind. So allow us to give you more! That is the simple plea.
Sakaal Times shall not be an English version of the Marathi Sakaal. Yes, the two papers belong to the Sakal Media Group, but so do others like Agrowon, Gomantak and Gomantak Times. And each of them has its own distinct fl avour, character, and profile, and therefore command a loyal, growing readership. In fact, Sakaal Times and Sakaal will compete with each other even as they take the best from each other! Believe us, these complementary, yet adversarial roles between the two shall benefi t you, our esteemed reader, the most.
No media house understands the ethos of Pune, Pimpri and Chinchwad better than the House of Sakaal which has proved its credentials over the last 76 years. Sakaal Times inherits the insights borne of that understanding. It will, therefore, be much more than just a chronicle, a watchdog, an observer or an entertainer. As a trusted partner, it shall walk the distance with you through thick and thin as we march together.
Relationships, like wine, mature with the passage of time. The early signs of how different Sakaal Times is vis-à-vis the others will be manifest in the early months and they will become increasingly visible, and enjoyable, as we move on. We are here to stay. And stay for a cause - the cause of sustainable development of this rapidly growing metropolis and its inhabitants. Let us develop this novel model collectively, brick by brick.
Sakaal Times intends to go to more cities in the near future. But as they say, every long journey begins with a fi rst step. Pune, Pimpri and Chinchwad is where Sakaal Times will embark on its long journey, begining tomorrow… with your inputs… with your support. Isn’t that the essence of active knowledge?
